WE PROVIDE HOPE FOR PEOPLE IN NEED IN MALLORCA
HOPE Mallorca supports people in need on the Balearic Island – regardless of their origin, religious or political beliefs.
HOPE Mallorca came into being on 13 May 2020 during the pandemic and opened several food stations across the island, distributing over 40 tonnes of food per month.
The pandemic, like the rest of the world, has been an accelerant of poverty, compounded by severe inflation and extremely rising rental costs.
Thanks to generous donations, HOPE Mallorca was able to continue its work as a foundation for people in need.
The foundation supports the people with food, clothing, hygiene articles and furniture.
Basic medical care is available on the island, but the families have to pay for prostheses, hearing aids, wheelchairs, etc. HOPE Mallorca has also set itself the goal of providing these families with medical support.
In poverty, children are usually the ones who suffer. Here, HOPE Mallorca supports their education and gives them weekly tutoring.
On the current situation in Mallorca – high levels of poverty and indigence
The social hardship on Mallorca is rising sharply, exploding rent and energy prices, as well as sharply increased prices for the purchase of food, are leading many families to the poverty line.
Despite the seasonal tourism, many families are in a financial emergency, with a basic income of about €1,080 per month, it is not possible to pay all the costs incurred. Many people are in a financial emergency. These people are dependent on support in order to cope with their daily lives and to provide for their children.
Poverty and neediness have thus become a sad reality on Mallorca. The HOPE Mallorca Foundation, together with its numerous volunteers, is doing everything in its power to counter this development.
